USTA Southern California has named John “Johnny” Lee of Flint Canyon Tennis Club as the April 2023 Tournament Director of the Month.

Johnny grew up playing tennis at Flint Canyon Tennis Club (FCTC) in La Canada Flintridge. He competed in local and national USTA tournaments, his favorites being the ones held at his own club. FCTC’s owner Horacio Tamborini, taught Johnny how to work the tournament desk from an early age. While planning on competing in college tennis, he experienced a career-ending injury. Johnny believes everything happens for a reason and so he started coaching in 2016.

He’s developed and coached numerous top ranked sectionally and nationally ranked juniors and helped place them in various DI/DII programs. Johnny strives to individualize his coaching for all his clientele where he aims to coach through the players’ eyes and not just his own. Likewise, he likes to run FCTC’s tournaments with the same approach, making sure he understands and caters to what the players and their families would like to see in a USTA tournament.

You can always find Johnny at the club’s tournament desk where he’s more than happy to answer any questions or chat about anything tennis! Johnny has been helping run FCTC’s tournaments for over 10 years and is looking forward to welcoming returning and new families!

Johnny has received praise from a multitude of players that participate in his tournaments, complimenting him on running very organized tournaments at a great facility with courts that are well maintained and give spectators the ability to view any court. Participants have also made note of his professionalism with tournaments: “They posted the fastest results I have ever seen which I appreciate so I can see who we were playing next.”
