JUNIOR TENNIS
USTA SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

OUR DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY.

USTA Southern California Player Development provides opportunities for high-level junior players to train under the supervision of some of SoCal’s most established teaching professionals. Our goal is to work closely with the section’s most successful coaches and players to offer support and guidance, fostering a team atmosphere and creating broad avenues of success for #TeamSoCal.

THE TEAM APPROACH

Player Development Camps will feature USTA Southern California PD Staff including world-renowned coach Paul Annacone, SoCal’s Executive Director Trevor Kronemann, and Director of Junior Tennis Dianne Matias, plus other top sectional coaches who will develop players on strategy, point construction, fitness, and more, giving them guidance on how to improve their games, match preparedness and approach.

The SoCal PD Staff will meet monthly with the sectional coaches to increase the level of collaboration and the potential impact on both the players participating in the program, as well as players being coached outside of the program. The sectional coaches will regularly join the PD staff at camps, clinics and other opportunities for training with the players.

With all of the shared knowledge and increased camaraderie among the players and coaches, the end result will be a #TeamSoCal environment that allows our sectional players to become better equipped to succeed at more competitive levels of the game. This should lead to higher national standings/rankings, better college placement, and more tennis success in both national and international tournaments.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

Players who participate in the Player Development program will be selected by PD staff based on USTA rankings, work-ethic, sportsmanship, and a desire to compete in college or as a professional tennis player.

Players must be invited to participate, but may also express interest by contacting one of the PD staff members.

COMPETITION TRAINING CENTERS

Competition Training Centers (CTC) bring together the top 16 players from each geographic area to develop their skills at a high level and compete among their most talented peers. Players gain beneficial exposure to fitness training, education, and sports science while practicing and competing with other CTC programs. The season takes place between February and June, culminating with a CTC Team Cup competition June 1-2, 2024.

Players will participate in a total of five practices that will include jamborees, scrimmage matches that count for WTN (no rankings), educational webinars, and college day outings. Current pros who have participated in SoCal CTC programming are Marcos Giron, Taylor Fritz, Desirae Krawczyk, Ena Shibahara, Brandon Holt, and Claire Liu.

For general information on CTC, please contact Jaycee Cruz at jcruz@scta.usta.com or Dianne Matias at dmatias@scta.usta.com.
