JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS FALL REGISTRATION

Registration for the Fall Season of Junior Team Tennis (JTT) is now open! This is a fantastic opportunity for young players to sharpen their skills, compete in team matches, and make lasting friendships.

With league play starting in September and the chance to advance to the Sectional Championships in Indian Wells, it’s the perfect time to get involved. JTT is designed for players ages 5-18, offering a fun yet competitive environment that helps kids grow both individually and as part of a team. Don’t miss out—register today and let your kids experience the thrill of tennis!

Please contact Jason Cook or your local Junior Team Tennis Area League Coordinator for more information.

“Team tennis was a blast. Our kids played it when they were young and it’s a nice introduction to competitive tennis because of the short format and friendly team environment. We’ve met many friends through it and would highly recommend it.” – Khoung Tien, father of back-to-back Boys’ 18s National Champion Learner Tien

COMPETE LIKE A CHAMPION PODCAST

With the Olympics ending and big events happening for juniors over the next month, it was timely for Compete like a Champion podcast to complete a special episode on how to prepare for a big event.

This episode gives you physical, mental, emotional, and social recommendations for having the best preparation for tournaments the players consider to be bigger than the usual tournament.

USTA PARENT WEBINARS

USTA Southern California along with Frank Giampaolo will be hosting a series of webinars. These webinars aim to help tennis parents gain a deeper understanding of the developmental process mandatory to inspire players to thrive. All webinars will begin at 6:30 PM. EARLY DEVELOPMENT CAMPS

USTA Southern California Early Development Camps are the first step in the USTA Player Development Pathway. Our goal is to bring together SoCal 10 & under players, who currently compete in Junior Circuit tournaments in order to practice and play together. Early Development Camps are developed and designed by the USTA High Performance Player Development and utilize local USTA trained coaches.

This two-day camp emphasizes fundamentals and overall athletic development in a fun, educational environment while giving players an opportunity to earn PlayTracker points through match play. Players with excellent work ethic, commitment, talent, and attitude are encouraged to participate.

The next Early Development Camp is on September 28-29 at Marina High School in Huntington Beach.

BATTLE OF THE SECTIONS

At the end of July, our top Boys’ and Girls’ 16s and 18s players competed at the L1 Battle of the Sections against teams from across the country.

Three-peat champions! The SoCal girls did it again, capturing their third straight Battle of the Sections title in an electrifying showdown. Thea Frodin sealed the deal with a clutch 4-3 victory in a nail-biting third set tiebreaker against Florida, securing SoCal’s place at the top once more. Huge congratulations to the entire team and coach Deb Shaffer for their phenomenal performance in Claremont!

Shoutout to the Girls’ 16s—Brooke Kwon, Sydney Barnhart, Kara Garcia, and Raina Kim—and the Girls’ 18s—Emily Deming (Captain), Thea Frodin, Gianna Oboniye, and Yilin Chen—for representing SoCal in style!

Meanwhile, the boys battled hard in Kalamazoo, Michigan, placing 7th. The Boys’ 16s—Andy Johnson, Justin Riley Anson, AJ Abarca, and Rishvanth Krishna—and the Boys’ 18s—Andrew Li, Jack Cross, Brayden Tallakson, and Roshan Santhosh—put up a strong fight under the leadership of coach Chuck Kingman.
