United States captures four titles at the 2024 ITF World Team Championships

American athletes continue to demonstrate the enduring appeal of tennis on the global stage. In the recent International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Team Championships held in Manavgat, Antalya, Turkey, U.S. teams secured victory in four out of the ten categories, including both men’s and women’s divisions. This prestigious tournament, akin to the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup, showcases top tennis talents competing across age groups ranging from 65 to 85 and over.

The victorious American teams clinched titles in the Gardnar Mulloy Cup (men’s 80 & over), Lorne Main Cup (men’s 85 & over), Kitty Godfree Cup (women’s 65 & over), and Angela Mortimer Cup (women’s 85 & over). Remarkably, this marks the second consecutive year that American teams have triumphed in these categories.

Furthermore, the Althea Gibson Cup (women’s 70 & over) and Queens’ Cup (women’s 75 & over) teams demonstrated commendable performances, securing second and third place medals respectively, adding to the impressive tally of American achievements.

11 out of 40 participants were from Southern California. Below is a list of players representing the United States in each division with results:

U.S. brings home 11 titles from ITF Masters World Individual Championships

U.S. athletes brought home a total of 11 singles and doubles titles from the recently-concluded International Tennis Federation (ITF) 65-, 70-, 75-, 80-, 85-and-over World Individual Championships in Manavgat, Antalya, Turkey, after winning four titles in the World Team Championships earlier in March.

Carolyn Nichols of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., (women’s 65+), Dorothy Wasser of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. (women’s 85+), and Jimmy Parker of Santa Fe, New Mexico (men’s 80+) led the American effort in the championships, as they won their singles and doubles titles in their respective age categories. Nichols and Parker both won all-American singles finals: The former beat Susan Wright in straight sets, while Parker came from a set behind to topple Fred Drilling in a match tiebreak for his individual title.

A brother and sister also brought home two medals for the red, white and blue, as the all-American pair of Chuck Kuhle and Anne Hayden Frautschi finished as runners-up in the mixed 65+ doubles, while his sister Elizabeth Kuhle won the women’s 70+ doubles title with Una Davis.
