WHAT IS THE WORLD TENNIS NUMBER?

For players who participate in USTA and ITF events, an ITF World Tennis Number (WTN) now provides a global standard for players nationwide – a scale designed for all players, regardless of age, gender, or ability.

Players need match results in order to generate an initial rating, and players will earn a separate ITF World Tennis Number for both singles and doubles.

WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF WTN?

ITF World Tennis Number statistics will track your progress and help improve your game seeding, selection and flighting by WTN in USTA-ranked tournaments and level-based tournaments (implementation will be throughout 2023) as well as ITF tournament selection.

Players from all over the world will be using the World Tennis Number to see how they compare to players across the United States and beyond.

WTN will also serve as a tool for college coaches to evaluate prospective student-athletes worldwide and could be used for selection and seeding in college tennis events. WTN is now the official ratings benchmark for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and college tennis.

HOW WILL WTN AFFECT PLAY IN SOCAL?

The World Tennis Number aims to simplify and provide a more accurate rating system for programming in Southern California.

Seedings for USTA-sanctioned junior tournaments from Level 3-5 will be determined by World Tennis Number. Flighted events and water falling team events will all use WTN to determine groupings. In Junior Team Tennis programming, WTN replaces the JNTRP rating system.

At adult events in Southern California, WTN will be used as a factor in determining tournament seeding.
