Southern California juniors shined at the USTA Level 1 National Winter Championships, bringing home two silver ball and two bronze ball finishes in singles and doubles from December 28 to January 3 at venues nationwide.
In the Boys and Girls’ 12s and 14s divisions in San Antonio, Texas, the tournament used a compass draw format. Players who lost a match moved to a different bracket, and all matches had a 3rd/4th place playoff. Singles were best of three full tiebreak sets, and doubles followed a 64-team, single-elimination format with tiebreak sets, with the semifinal, final, and 3rd/4th playoff matches playing a full third set.
In the Boys and Girls’ 16s and 18s divisions in Orlando, Florida, the tournament used a feed-in consolation format. Singles draws included 128 players, and all matches followed the same set formats as the 12s and 14s divisions. Doubles also had a 64-team, single-elimination format with similar rules.
