Attention all Southern California junior players, the 2024 Kramer Future Champions Scholarship is now open and receiving applications. Hosted by the SCTA Foundation, this scholarship “supports junior tennis players between the ages of 8-18 who aspire to play collegiate or professional tennis, show significant promise, and demonstrate financial need to compete in sectional or national tournaments.”
Offered three times a year in the months of February, June and now October, the scholarship holds a value up to $1,000. This grant is designed for current and aspiring competitive tennis players in the section, covering expenses related to the sport including tournament fees, travel, coaching and more.
The application window opened on Tuesday, October 1st, and will remain open until Thursday, October 31st. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, players must create an account through the SCTA foundation. Applicants should have a history of tournament competition with the goal to play collegiately or higher.
Within the application process, players must include player and parent information, USTA SoCal rating history (if applicable), and personal playing details, as well as answer questions regarding the scholarship and why they feel deserving of the grant.
Once all applications are received and the portal is closed, the SCTA Foundation’s committee will review all submissions in November to determine the players that will be awarded the scholarships.
Named in honor of American and Southern California tennis great Jack Kramer, the scholarship places great importance on creating accessibility in the sport for all, something that Jack and his family stress great importance on. The Kramer family have been instrumental in the growth of Southern California tennis, with sons Jon and Bob especially helping to carry on the Kramer family name and legacy through their efforts.
“We at the SCTA Foundation are very excited to offer this scholarship once again,” shared Linda Milan. “Past scholarship recipients have successfully pursued college tennis and beyond. We are committed to providing deserving players with ongoing opportunities in tennis, especially those who might not have access to them otherwise.”
