The 2026 Southern California Adult League Sectionals season kicked off over the weekend of April 24-26 in Orange County, as upwards of four hundred competitors representing all thirteen areas made the trek to compete across five divisions of Mixed 18 & Over play. Matches were held at the Great Park Tennis Center, the Costa Mesa Tennis Center, and the Nellie Gail Ranch Tennis Club.

Division champions earned a coveted spot at the 2026 USTA National Championships later this year. The 6.0, 8.0, and 10.0 winners will compete at the Surprise Racquet and Tennis Complex in Surprise, Arizona, from November 6-8. Meanwhile, the 7.0 and 9.0 champions will head to the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama, to vie for a title from October 30 to November 1.

Competition formats were tailored by division. The 6.0 division featured three unflighted matches with the top two teams advancing directly to the finals, while the 7.0 and 8.0 divisions utilized flighted play where flight winners and the best second-place team moved into the semifinals. The 9.0 division also played three unflighted matches with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals, whereas the 10.0 division followed a round-robin format. In every division, each team match was decided by the results of three lines of doubles play.

Unfortunately, the weather proved a difficult opponent over the weekend, as rain forced the postponement of the championship matches in both the 6.0 and 9.0 divisions. Because of this, these finals will be rescheduled for a future date to be announced.

6.0 Mixed

With the Mixed 6.0 finals unable to be completed due to rain, the finalists from San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles will crown a victor at a later date. Representing San Gabriel Valley, the team from Downey High School punched their ticket to the finals by finishing atop the standings after three unflighted matches. Led by captain Sergio Salas, SGV compiled a perfect 3-0 record with victories over Beach Cities, San Diego, and Inland Empire. They will face the “You’ve Been Served” squad from Los Angeles. Captained by Anna Floersch and Michelle Kramer and playing out of the Westwood Tennis Center, the LA team also put together a 3-0 record, defeating San Fernando Valley, Beach Cities, and a fellow Los Angeles team on their way to the championship match.

7.0 Mixed

Orange County’s “Meta Legend” delivered a flawless performance to claim the Mixed 7.0 title, going undefeated without dropping a single individual match all weekend. The team from Heritage Community Park, led by captains Nicholas Lau and Michael Gu, was perfect in flighted play with wins over San Diego, San Fernando Valley, and Inland Empire. They maintained their dominance in the playoffs, blanking Ventura County 3-0 in the semifinals before defeating San Gabriel Valley 3-0 in the final to clinch the trophy. The San Gabriel Valley “Wild Cards,” captained by Colin Tang and Laurie Manley, reached the final having dropped only one individual match across four contests. En route to the championship, the squad from Arroyo High School secured victories over teams from Los Angeles, San Diego North County, Santa Barbara, and Beach Cities.

8.0 Mixed

Securing gold in the Mixed 8.0 division, San Gabriel Valley’s “Wild Cards” displayed a gritty performance to take home the title. Led by captains Colin Tang and Priscilla Chieng, the Arroyo High School-based team posted a 2-1 record in flighted play, besting San Diego North County and Beach Cities before falling to Orange County. Despite the loss, SGV advanced to the playoffs as the best second-place team, where they faced a daunting semifinal matchup against an undefeated Inland Empire. The “Wild Cards” rose to the occasion, advancing to the finals with a convincing 3-0 sweep over IE. This set the stage for a championship rematch against Orange County’s “Boot Camp,” led by Frank Tran out of the Fountain Valley Tennis Center, who reached the final after an undefeated run through qualifying and a semifinal win over Central Coast. Avenging their earlier defeat, SGV turned the tables on OC with a 2-1 victory to clinch the trophy.

9.0 Mixed

The Mixed 9.0 division will conclude with an all-San Diego showdown after rain delayed the final match. San Diego, playing out of Miramar College and led by Wileen Chiu and Sheena Patel, dominated qualifying with a 3-0 record without dropping an individual match. They edged out Beach Cities 2-1 in a tight semifinal to secure their place. They will face San Diego North County’s “Surf & Turf,” captained by Priscilla Martinez and Katherine Steinberg. The SDNC team was equally impressive, sweeping their unflighted matches before defeating an unbeaten San Gabriel Valley team 2-1 in the semifinals to advance to the championship.

10.0 Mixed

San Diego became the third area to claim a Sectionals title over the weekend, emerging victorious in the Mixed 10.0 division. Competing in a round-robin format, the San Diego team proved too much for the opposition, going undefeated to secure the championship. Led by captains Deborah Lee-Tep and Lindsay Brown and competing out of the Pacific Beach Tennis Club, the team defeated two squads from Los Angeles and another from Orange County on their path to the title. The runner-ups from Los Angeles, “Team Quan,” secured a runner-up finish with a strong 2-1 record over the weekend. Captained by Jarrod Quan and playing out of Westchester Park, the team bested competitors from Los Angeles and Orange County, with their only defeat coming at the hands of the eventual champions from San Diego.

Spirit Award Winner

Captain Sergio Salas and the San Gabriel Valley “HFA” team out of Downey High School took home the first Spirit Award of the 2026 season this weekend. The group was named the event’s most spirited team following a social media vote centered on their outfits and SoCal spirit.
