Southern California has always been the heartbeat of American tennis, and in 2027, the rest of the world is coming to our backyard.
Los Angeles has been selected to host the 10th edition of the Laver Cup, one of tennis’ premier international team events, from September 24 to 26, 2027 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The three day, high stakes competition between Team Europe and Team World will bring many of the sport’s top men’s players to Southern California. This edition also marks the tournament’s second consecutive North American edition in California, following its debut in San Francisco in 2025, and its first time heading south within the state.
For Los Angeles, this is more than just another tournament, it arrives amid a defining decade for the region’s sports landscape. The city is already a host for several FIFA World Cup matches and will also welcome Super Bowl LXI and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The addition of one of tennis’ most prestigious international team events further strengthens Southern California’s position as a global hub for major sporting moments.
Named in honor of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, the Laver Cup is one of the most distinguished events in professional tennis, featuring six of Europe’s top men’s players against six players from the rest of the world over three days on a signature black court. Since its debut in 2017 in Prague, it has become a staple on the tennis calendar, transforming individual rivalries into a shared team experience and bringing many of the sport’s biggest stars together in a high energy, fast evolving competition.
The format creates an atmosphere unlike anything else in tennis, turning tour rivals into teammates and delivering moments that quickly become part of the sport’s history. One of its most iconic came in 2022 in London, when Roger Federer played the final match of his professional career alongside longtime rival Rafael Nadal, a defining image from the “Big Four” era.
“Roger Federer’s vision was to create an event that honored Rod Laver and celebrated the very best of our sport,” said Laver Cup Chairman and TEAM8 CEO Tony Godsick. “From the beginning, we set out to build a team competition unlike anything else in tennis, bringing the world’s best players together as teammates. As we prepare for the 10th edition of the Laver Cup, it’s incredibly rewarding to see how that vision has been embraced by fans, players, and partners around the world.”
Following its return to The O2 in London from September 25 to 27, 2026, the event continues its global rotation of landmark tennis cities, bringing that same electric energy to Los Angeles in 2027.
Southern California’s connection to the Laver Cup extends well beyond hosting duties, with current and emerging ATP talent representing the region on tennis’ biggest stages.
Rancho Santa Fe native Taylor Fritz, currently ranked world No. 9 with a career high of No. 4, has become one of Team World’s most dependable performers in the competition. He has competed in five editions of the Laver Cup, spanning Geneva 2019, London 2022, Vancouver 2023, Berlin 2024, and San Francisco 2025, and is set for his sixth appearance in London 2026. His 2025 performance in San Francisco was a defining chapter, highlighted by his first career win over Carlos Alcaraz and a decisive clinching victory against Alexander Zverev that secured the title for Team World and helped shift momentum in a major way.
Aliso Viejo native Alex Michelsen also represented Team World in 2025, continuing his rapid rise on the ATP Tour and underscoring Southern California’s steady pipeline of emerging men’s talent competing on the international stage.
Their success reflects a much deeper regional legacy. For decades, Southern California has produced some of the sport’s most influential figures, including Billie Jean King, Tracy Austin, Lindsay Davenport, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang, and the Bryan Brothers (Mike and Bob). Today, the region continues to develop elite junior, collegiate, and professional players while supporting a deep tournament ecosystem and clear pathways for player development. The section also hosts professional events such as the SoCal Pro Series, major junior championships like the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 16s and 18s National Championships, wheelchair tennis and adapted programs, and community initiatives that bring thousands of new players into the sport each year.
For local leadership, the tournament’s arrival is both a celebration of this history and a massive catalyst for the future.
“The Laver Cup coming to Los Angeles in 2027 is a landmark moment for Southern California tennis,” said Cynthia Neiman, President of USTA Southern California. “Seeing the sport’s biggest stars competing in our backyard will ignite interest in the game while supporting our mission of growing tennis. Hard core tennis fans will be thrilled, and new tennis fans will be born. Los Angeles is a global city, and the Laver Cup is a global event. We could not be prouder to welcome the world to our home court.”
The arrival of the Laver Cup further reinforces Los Angeles’ standing as one of the world’s premier tennis destinations.
An event this cutting-edge needs a venue to match, and the Intuit Dome is the ultimate flex. The brand-new home of the LA Clippers opened its doors in 2024 and has already hosted the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. It is also slated to serve as the basketball venue for the 2028 Olympic Games, reinforcing its place on the global stage for major international competition.
“Los Angeles is one of the world’s leading destinations for major sporting events and live entertainment,” said Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks. “Intuit Dome has redefined the fan experience and set a new benchmark for live sport. We can think of no better city and venue to host the 10th edition of the Laver Cup.”
Kathryn Schloessman, President & CEO of the LA Sports & Entertainment Commission, perfectly captured the local hype: “Los Angeles is in the middle of an extraordinary decade of hosting global sporting events and welcoming the Laver Cup adds another world-class event to that momentum. Its arrival in 2027…reinforces Los Angeles’ position as one of the world’s leading destinations for major international events.”
