On July 12, 2025, the El Camino Country Club in Oceanside, California will host a free Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training Event in collaboration with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Southern California. The CPR/AED training and clinics are open to players age 16 and over.
Last year, a remarkable and unexpected event at El Camino Country Club changed lives—and saved one. During a routine tennis match, a healthy, active 57-year-old club member suffered sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to immediate bystander CPR and the rapid response of the Oceanside Fire Department, he was stabilized at Tri-City Medical Center and made a full recovery. Today, he’s back at work and on the court.
This powerful story inspired a community-wide CPR/AED training event in 2024 that brought together over 100 participants—and the impact was profound.
In addition to CPR training, the USTA Southern California will be offering complimentary tennis clinics throughout the day, including:
> Red Dot Ball Clinics – A fun and fast-paced introduction to tennis.
> Live Ball Clinics – High-energy point play with continuous movement.
The Oceanside Fire Department and Tri-City Medical Center’s medical staff will also be volunteering their time to deliver critical, hands-on CPR/AED training. With survival from cardiac arrest often depending on immediate response, this training provides community members with essential tools that can truly save lives.
We invite the public and press to attend this unique, impactful, and health-focused event that combines lifesaving education with lifelong fitness. Tennis is the world’s healthiest sport—shown to add nearly 10 years to your life. Learn how to save a life, then play a sport that helps protect your own.
